Names beyond the Numbers

As part of the American identity, its history and complicated relationships with its people and others are to be recognized. The summer of 2020 yielded a spotlight on several different issues that have been a long stain on the country’s history. One major stain was the mistreatment of civilians by police forces, known as police brutality. NPR’s podcast above, “Summer of Racial Reckoning: The Match Lit” shares the lives and stories of two people who have become a number of the many who have lost their lives which were caused by police. They had names, they were people, they were lovers and were loved. Breonna Taylor and George Floyd have their stories told by their community, along with Ahmaud Arbery and their impact and legacy in the community.
