Jmpcut (Cordrell Colbert)
Bio
Jmpcut (Cordrell Colbert) is a multi-disciplinary visual artist with a focus on imbuing classical, and nostalgic elements into contemporary references.
His exploration of color, use of practical effects, and rich and diverse narratives all complement his visual style! His diverse range of mediums includes Creative Direction, Drone piloting, Film and Digital Photography, Filmmaking, rug tufting, and sewing to name a few.
His photography is a means of providing Black people a
glimpse into their higher self and a tether to their ancestral strengths. His goal is to bring out the latent, but regal qualities in black visual expressions. By doing so, His art becomes a catharsis for years of unexplainable acts and
misdeeds that are negative expressions.
Cordrell Colbert shows that people who are outcasts often have the most
unique perspectives. Too often we peer at the gap between where we want to be and where we are, toiling away, lugging a load of generational trauma, and both economic and social barriers. Cordrell wants to show how making a minor mindset change can exponentially alter one's trajectory. Cordrell uses his art as a reminder that crossing each chasm, as we have done repeatedly, never gets easier, but it is necessary to keep moving forward.
