Our statement of Solidarity, Equality, Equity, and Support for others
In solidarity to supporting the community, We will keep this logo on all our platforms for the rest of the year. For a year and a half, we have been working on the Transparency project to uplift the voices, stories, and messages of the Transgender community. In our research about representation's effects on people's reality, we want to use art as a platform for people to represent themselves.
In the past year and a half, we learned more about advocacy and what it takes. It is more than making a statement, but being one with the community. Advocacy is more that the gestures we make like putting someone's flag behind your logo (Yes, we know the irony) but about looking for ways to systematically support people who have been marginalized for some time now. Advocacy is about realizing and understanding the intersectionalities between communities and people and using those to find ways to provide equality and equity. In the words of Dr. Angela Davis, according to @DreamDefenders on instagram, "If we want an intersectional perspective, the Trans community is showing us the way. The Trans community has taught us to challenge that which is perceived to be normal. If we can challenge the gender binary, we can challenge prisons."
We are fortunate to have the support of so many now and are excited to to explore these new possibilities. It is both humbling and empowering as a Black & LGBT+ owned business to have advocates and allies as we are being an advocate and ally to another. This project has taught us to have a larger love and respect for the process and we hope to see more in the future.
In the steps we seek to take and as we focus on this exhibition, we hope to learn how we human beings can come together as communities to help one another. We will see you all in Greensboro, NC on November. Stay safe.
